The Great River Race, September 16th 2023
What another great year on the Thames and this time with our two lovely Cornish gigs and sixteen competitors. Unlike last year this was a true race on one of the sunniest and warmest days of the summer. About two hundred and twenty boats took part, of all shapes, sizes and crew numbers. It really was a wonderful spectacle and a huge privelage and experience for all those lucky enough to be taking part. The Great River Race is London’s River Marathon. It’s a spectacular boat race covering 21.6 miles from Millwall in the East to Richmond in the West, travelling under 28 of London’s famous bridges.
Both crews had a good race, finishing with times within a minute of each other over a two hour and fifty minute row. Although official results are provisional at the time of writing, the two crews finished approximately mid table, overall and also in the Cornish Gig class. A brilliant effort by all involved!
